Reports: Nuggets Reject Knicks' Offer Of Shumpert For Faried
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Knicks fans love Iman Shumpert. They love the intensity he brings to the court every night, especially on defense.
Well, they may want to come to grips with a truth: He's no longer a favorite of New York's front office.
According to a report earlier Wednesday in the Daily News, there had been ramped-up trade talk between the Knicks and Denver Nuggets involving Shumpert. However, multiple reports later in the day indicated that the Knicks' offer for power forward Kenneth Faried had been rejected.
So, Shumpert is safe, for now.
The Knicks do like Faried as an answer to improve their suddenly banged-up frontcourt. Center Tyson Chandler is out 4-6 weeks with a broken leg, and Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin have been placed on minutes restrictions while they deal with health problems, leaving New York scrambling for a low-post presence.
Faried, a 6-foot-8, 230-pounder who hails from Newark, N.J., was the 22nd overall pick in the 2011 draft by Denver. He's averaged 11 points and 8.6 rebounds, while shooting nearly 56 percent from the floor, over the last three seasons.
But he's not coming to New York any time soon, if at all, unless the Knicks rethink their offer to the Nuggets.
Shumpert, a former first-round pick, has fallen out of favor with both head coach Mike Woodson and owner James Dolan, the Daily News reported. And since J.R. Smith has been moved into the starting lineup it is believed Shumpert will lose his starting spot when Chandler returns to the lineup, the newspaper reported.
The Knicks (2-4) took on the Hawks (4-3) on Wednesday night in Atlanta. New York has won four straight and seven of eight in the series.
