Report: Giants Wasting No Time With Free-Agent-To-Be Jon Beason
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Jon Beason wants to return to the New York Giants, and it seems the feeling is mutual.
The Giants "have already begun the process of trying to retain" Beason, who is slated to become a free agent, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. The former first-round pick impressed in New York after being traded to the Giants from the Carolina Panthers in early October.
Beason had 93 tackles in 12 games for the Giants and helped bring stability to their defense, in turn flipping his script from oft-injured liability to a force -- and potentially a hot commodity -- at middle linebacker.
"I feel at home," Beason said after Sunday's season finale, a 20-6 win over Washington. "The guys have welcomed me. The organization, I like the way they run. It's business and it's big time. The expectations are through the roof. ... I would love to play here next year."
Big Blue has "already expressed an interest" in re-signing Beason, the Star-Ledger reported.
Teammate Antrel Rolle is one guy who'd like to see the 28-year-old stick around. Rolle told WFAN radio on Tuesday that bringing back Beason and defensive end Justin Tuck should be considered "a must."
"The guy's a stud, man," Rolle said of Beason. "More importantly, he's a football player. The guy loves to play football, he loves to go out there and compete. He's definitely one that we would need here to build and make a run towards this 2014 season."
The Giants finished 7-9 in 2013, missing the playoffs for the fourth time in five years.
