Report: Donnie Walsh, Knicks On Verge Of Agreement
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- It seems Donnie Walsh's tenure with the Knicks is far from over.
MSG chairman James Dolan "is on the verge of announcing" an agreement that would bring the Knicks president back next season, reports the New York Post.
"Jim really wants him back and the only issue left is Donnie getting assurances he's in charge of the basketball operations," said the paper's source.
According to the Post, Walsh isn't exactly thrilled with the amount of outside influence regarding Knicks basketball decisions. Another Post source says the rift is "going to be resolved."
Dolan has until the end of this month to pick up the option on Walsh's contract for next season, otherwise it expires June 30.
In just three seasons, Walsh turned a team that overspent and underachieved into what Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony believe is now a desired destination among NBA players.
"Absolutely. Donnie has done a phenomenal job. He's one of the main reasons why I'm here in New York and how we have turned the Knicks franchise around," Stoudemire said. "And coach D'Antoni is the reason why we have a winning record and had a chance to do something special in the playoffs if it wasn't for a few injuries. So I definitely think that both of those guys will be back for next season."
