Car Bursts Into Flames After Slamming Head-On Into Scooter In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A car burst into flames after slamming head-on into a man riding a scooter in Queens early Saturday morning.
Police told CBS2 the incident happened at Cooper Avenue and 73rd Street at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday.
Investigators say Roberto Loivo, 38, who was driving an Acura MDX, swerved into the eastbound lane on Cooper Avenue, striking the 21-year-old man driving his scooter.
The victim is in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital.
Loivo, of Poughkeepsie, was issued a breathalyzer on the scene and taken into custody.
Loivo has been charged with assault, reckless driving, and driving while ability impaired by alcohol.
