Put On A Happy Face, It's National Smile Week!

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Turn that frown upside down. It's National Smile Week!

National Smile Week was established to promote dental health and the maintenance of a brilliant smile. But smiling has a positive effect on more than just your looks. The act can be therapeutic and it can also create a friendlier environment wherever you may be.

LISTEN: 1010 WINS' John Montone Reports

So, 1010 WINS reporter John Montone went around Times Square Wednesday morning to find out what makes New Yorkers smile.

"You make me smile," Ahmad, a pretzel vendor, chuckled.

For one woman a "faithful man" puts a smile on her face and a man said watching children play makes him happy but Montone ran into a New Yorker who said a certain place in the Big Apple makes him beam.

"You go to Brooklyn you're going to have to smile," the man said. " It's the love of Brooklyn, you ain't going to get that type of love nowhere else."

So what's the best way to get in the spirit? Just flash those pearly whites and get caught in a smile-a-thon.

"When somebody else is smiling, that makes me smile," a man said with a smile from ear-to-ear.
