Prosecutor Brian Hayward said Burnett was carrying a duffle bag stuffed with $10,000 in cash and had two hotel room keys with him.
Hayward said investigators found $5,000 in the hotel room and found that Burnett had used hotel stationary to write threatening notes that he would use during the alleged robberies.
Prosecutors said the notes read, "Put the money in the bag, I've got a gun."
Burnett is accused of stealing over $26,000 over the spree which began on Monday.
His attorney said Burnett has no criminal record and that medical issues may have come into play in this case. He did not elaborate.
Burnett is being held on $100,000 bail.
