Polly Want A Rap Sheet? Conn. Man Arrested For Hurling Bird At Cops

WATERBURY, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A man in Connecticut is giving new meaning to the phrase "flipping the bird."

Waterbury police were responding to a report of a fight on Orange Street Tuesday night when they saw a shirtless man, identified as 32-year-old Luis Santana, running away and holding a white parrot.

At some point, Santana threw the bird at police and the parrot bit an officer on the finger, police said.

Officers later found Santana hiding in a nearby house and placed him under arrest.

Santana faces several charges including cruelty to animals, second-degree burglary, assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct. He is due in court next month.

The bird, which didn't belong to Santana, has been returned to its owner, who lives around the corner from where the fight occurred, police said.

Additional charges are expected to be filed against Santana for stealing the bird, police said.
