Poll: Comptroller John Liu's Job Approval Drops

NEW YORK (AP) -- The fundraising scandals dogging New York City Comptroller John Liu are taking a bite out of his job-approval numbers.

A Quinnipiac University Poll released Thursday found that 38 percent of New York voters approve of the way he's handling his job. That's down from 57 percent in May.

Liu's campaign spokesman says that given the daily barrage of bad news, they're "surprised his numbers are that good."

Liu's standing as a possible mayoral candidate remained unchanged. Forty-six percent said he would not make a good mayor.

The poll also found soft support for Council Speaker Christine Quinn. Thirty-nine percent say she would make a good mayor.

The poll surveyed 1,242 voters Dec. 7-12. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
