Police: Shoplifters Attack Gas Station Employee In Englewood, NJ

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Several people allegedly attacked and injured a gas station employee who authorities say was trying to stop them from shoplifting.

Englewood police tell The Record (http://bit.ly/15GaqM6) that the employee suffered numerous cuts and bruises when he was attacked early Sunday.

Authorities say the assailants arrived at the station in two cars, and some people in the group began stealing items such as candy, cigarettes and lighters. When the employee intervened, some of them hit him with items in the store and then fled.

Authorities believe the attackers were mostly New York City residents who had come to Englewood for party.

No arrests have been made.
