Police: Man Pretended To Be Cop, Stole Boy's Cellphone In 168th Street Subway Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were searching for a suspect who allegedly pretended to be a police officer as he stole a cellphone from a 13-year-old boy at a subway stop in Washington Heights.
Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, the boy crawled under the turnstile at the 168th Street stop, which serves the A, C and No. 1 lines near NewYork Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center, police said.
The suspect posed as a police officer and stopped the boy, demanding his phone, police said. The suspect then told the boy he needed to borrow the phone, take some photos and come back, but he left and never returned, police said.
The victim had an HTC-One cellphone, police said.
Police have released surveillance video of a suspect.
