Plaxico Burress Calls Jets 'Appealing,' Criticizes Giants' Tom Coughlin

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- When Plaxico Burress told the Wall Street Journal last week, "You never know what may happen. I love New York," it sounded as if a return to the Giants could be in the cards.

On Monday, Burress called his relationship with coach Tom Coughlin "ambivalent" in a TV interview. He also described Rex Ryan's squad as "appealing."

So how about those Jets?

"My situation in New York, me and my coach had an ambivalent relationship to say the least," Burress said in the interview, taped after the receiver announced his intention to work with the National Urban League and Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. "Some things that I didn't agree with, with the way he went about things. And the only way to show my way was to just rebel. Is that who I am? No."

Burress added: "This is not college. This is professional sports. If you can't sit down and go talk to a man that you are busting your tail for, not even have the respect for anything that you have to say, like I said, the only thing I knew then was to rebel."

Coughlin, meanwhile, offered Burress "nothing but the best" yesterday.

"He had a child born while he was incarcerated, those things, I cannot imagine what his wife went through," Coughlin told the New York Daily News. "But I hope that they have a chance to have some normalcy to their lives, Plaxico gets a chance to get reacquainted with his kids. I am sincere in that."

Ryan stands in stark contrast to Coughlin: outspoken, flashy and extremely popular in the clubhouse. If that's what Burress is looking for, the Jets could be a good fit.

"Of course they are appealing," said Burress of the Jets. "Ever since I came to New York, the fans have embraced me. It is a great city and a great town. It will always be a special place to me regardless of what happens."

Burress said the decision hinges on what's best for his family.

"I can't say the Jets or Philly or anywhere of that nature," Burress said. "It may not be the best team but put yourself as a piece to the puzzle and say what's the best chance I have to win a championship."

Burress already owns a Super Bowl ring with the Giants. Having the opportunity to also lead the Jets to the promised land is a proposition Burress admits is enticing.

"I am not going to sit here and front. For me to go to one side to the other side and win a championship in the same (city), how many people have done that?" Burress said. "Do I have the capability to lead a team to a championship? Without question."

"Eli (Manning) has won a championship and the crazy thing about it is it is almost that Mark Sanchez gets more pub than the world champion quarterback which is crazy," Burress added. "And I'm looking at it from afar. The man went out and led the organization to a Super Bowl but for some reason, I guess Mark Sanchez is supposed to be better than the guy that has already won one."
