Parking Problems Persist At Fairfield County Train Stations

HARTFORD, CT (WCBS 880) - New Haven Line commuters often wait for years and years before they get their hands on a parking permit at any of the train stations along the line.

WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau On The Story

And once they do get a permit, they often keep it in the family, passing it along to the next generation.

Even when a person loses his job in New York City, he'll often still hold on to his permit.

Jim Cameron of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council says the Connecticut DOT needs to either manage the demand or increase the supply.

"We think in the long run, increasing the supply, building more parking spaces, is the best long term answer," he told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

But the go ahead would have to come from the DOT, which, a couple of years ago explored the idea, but the problem persists.
