NEW YORK -- Police are investigating a murder mystery in Queens. They are trying to figure out why a gunman knocked on a door and then opened fire on a wife and mother.

CBS2's Andrea Grymes spoke to her heartbroken husband on Thursday.

"I'm lost without her, man. I'm lost without her," David Aguilar said.

Devastated Aguilar was speaking about his beloved wife, 51-year-old Anna Torres, who police say was shot dead in the front doorway of their Ozone Park home.

"She was the sweetest person in the world, man. She helped everybody. She was a psychic. You know, it don't make sense to me, man," Aguilar said.

Investigators say 41-year-old Giuseppe Canzani is now charged with her murder.

Canzani, of Howard Beach, stayed silent Thursday afternoon as police led him out of the 106th Precinct.

They say at around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday he knocked on Torres' door on the corner of 96th Street and 109th Avenue and then pulled the trigger when she answered.

Police believe a video shows Canzani appearing to hold a gun nearby, before getting into a car. They say he turned himself in a short time later.

Aguilar told CBS2 he has no idea who the suspect is.

"Never heard that name before, man," Aguilar said.

Police sources say Torres read tarot cards out of her home, and they're looking into whether Canzani met her through that business.

On Thursday afternoon, the Ozone Park Residents Block Association spoke on behalf of neighbors, several of whom told CBS2 they were too scared to speak on camera. The group president said this is the second shooting in the area in nine days in a part of the city he argues was safer under the policies of former Mayors Bloomberg and Giuliani.

"All of us here live in this community, OK. We are all living in fear. We come out of our homes and we wonder who's next? Who's gonna be shot? Who's gonna be robbed?" Sam Esposito said.

As for this case, the victim's son is in the NYPD, but police do not believe the shooting is in any way connected to his work.

The block association is having an emergency town hall meeting next Thursday.
