On the FAN: Jets' Tannenbaum On Revis Deal

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum joined WFAN's Boomer & Carton to discuss the signing of cornerback Darrelle Revis.

"It took a lot longer than any of us thought it would or had hoped," Tannenbaum said. "Finally we went back to an older idea, moved some things around, tweaked it, and we got it done."

Perhaps the most crucial moment of the negotiations came Saturday, when both Ryan and owner Woody Johnson flew to Revis' home in South Florida to meet with him, his mother Diana Gilbert and uncle and former NFL player Sean Gilbert to try to solve the contract impasse.

"I don't think without that trip we'd be having this conversation," said the Jets' GM.

Revis signed a four-year deal Monday, ending a 36-day holdout that included some acrimonious moments between his agents and Tannenbaum.

Both the Jets and Revis' agents spoke all weekend until reaching what general manager Mike Tannenbaum called "a breakthrough" before coming to an agreement around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

Revis began his holdout Aug. 1.
