Oil Analyst Sees Lower Gas Prices Ahead For Tri-State Area

HARTFORD, CT (WCBS 880) - Historically, gas prices in New York City, Westchester County, Long Island, and  Fairfield County are the last in the nation to ease up.

WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau On The Story

Oil analyst Peter Beutel says, while the national average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.45, here in our metropolitan area, the price is at least 40 cents higher.

"In my travels, I've still seen prices over $4 dollars here and there, for regular unleaded," he said.

Beutel says though zone pricing is a factor here, there's no valid reason for these higher prices.

"For reasons that I don't really completely understand, the refiners are taking their sweet time about lowering the price and it certainly would be a welcome reduction at this point with everything going on in the economy," he told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

He says gasoline prices in the area should drop to below $3.70 a gallon, likely before the end of the month.
