Obama Attends Democratic Fundraisers In New York City

WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/AP) -- President Barack Obama was in New York City on Monday to raise campaign cash for Democrats.

Obama attended two fundraisers at private homes for the Democratic National Committee, including one hosted by film producer Harvey Weinstein. About 60 people were expected at each event, with tickets starting at $16,200. The DNC is still paying off debt it incurred during Obama's re-election.

A gridlock was in effect in New York City through much of the evening.

Obama also appeared at a joint fundraiser for the Democratic campaign committees in the House and Senate. About 140 people were expected at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where donors paid $7,500 to attend or $32,400 to chair the dinner. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was to attend.

Democratic officials said Obama has committed to at least 20 fundraisers in and out of Washington ahead of the 2014 elections.
