NYPD: Woman Stole $360K Worth Of Jewelry From Man Sleeping In Hotel Room
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a woman they say stole $360,000 worth of jewelry from a man at a Manhattan hotel. She also took his watch, police said.
Erica Cooper, 34, stole the property and fled the room as the 47-year-old victim was sleeping in his room at the Cosmopolitan Hotel on West Broadway on April 17, according to authorities.
Cooper had met the man earlier in the night at the Whiskey Park bar on Central Park South, according to authorities. Sources told 1010 WINS that Cooper has a series of prior arrests for prostitution.
The victim, identified by the New York Post as a gem trader named Kurt Kaiser, told the paper that he had been drinking heavily and was upset he was unable to sell merchandise.
Kaiser told the paper that after talking to Cooper for about 45 minutes, she suggested the pair head to the hotel in Tribeca to get a room after stopping at a pharmacy to get a box of condoms.
He told the Post that Cooper got away with a briefcase filled with diamonds after he fell asleep.
Cooper also goes by the name "Bianca Williams" and police described her as approximately 5-foot-9 and 120 pounds with a small build, brown eyes and black hair.
