97 5th Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11217

This Park Slope coffee shop's red-accented space is filled with two-person tables and a high, thin bar facing windows onto the street. On a nice day, perch yourself on the benches outside. The free WiFi is solid, inside or out, and the coffee is some of New York's best. Whether you spring for a simple espresso, cold-brewed iced coffee or the famed maple latte, you're in for a treat. Plus, pastries are from Balthazar and muffins are from nearby Blue Sky. What more could you ask for?

Toby's Estate
125 N 6th St
Brooklyn, NY 11249
(347) 457-6160

Owner Toby Smith opened the Toby's Estate Brooklyn outpost after years of "coffee shopping" in Sydney, Australia. The experience shows at this North Williamsburg joint. Soaring ceilings and windows, couches and tables of all sizes as well as countless coffee options make Toby's Estate a perfect work destination. Grab the Flat White, a traditional Australian drink of two espressos and foamless, slightly frothed milk. Only certain tables allow laptops, but there is plenty of space and solid WiFi.  Juice your laptop batteries before showing up; outlets are hard to come by.

New York, NY 10009

Ninth Street Espresso is a no-frills, relaxed space tucked into Alphabet City. The bright space feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the East Village, despite facing 9th Street. You'll find it's a quiet spot perfect for being productive. The coffee shop is on the smaller side, but tables fill the available space. The menu is simple and reasonable, with a coffee running about $2.50.

28 Jane St
New York, NY 10014

This outlet-heavy coffee shop is a West Village gem, whether you're toting a laptop or just reading a book with a steaming Nutella latte. You'll forgive Grounded for the occasionally slow WiFi and 90-minute seating limit (although it can be a relaxed policy). The mismatched chairs and tables, organic coffee and tea, abundant potted plants and large sunlight make Grounded a truly charming coffee shop.

Tea Lounge
837 Union St
Brooklyn, NY 11215

This Park Slope coffee shop has it all. The Tea Lounge's expansive space is packed with tables of all sizes and plenty of couches. You'll find the typical coffee and tea drinks, as well as beer, wine and a full food menu. The tea options here are, unsurprisingly, particularly plentiful. Try the Moroccan Mint or Rooibos Chai, which are presented in a charming personal teapot. The WiFi is solid, outlets are easy to find and if you work into the evening, you'll find yourself enjoying a comedy or music performance.

VBar's small, cozy Greenwich Village shop runs as a café by day and wine and beer bar by night. Head here for some daytime work – the free WiFi shuts down at 6 p.m. – and prop yourself at the bar or high, long tables. The casual vibe is perfect for sipping a latte or brew as you work, and the breakfast and panini options ensure you'll never go hungry. Plus, you won't have to leave for the nearest bar once you're finished being productive.
