NYC's Best 5 Spots Serving Moscato D'Asti
Named for the grape variety used to produce it (Moscato) and the district of the Piedmont region where it is made (Asti), each sip of this wine is like biting into an aromatic, fresh grape. Moscato d'Asti works perfectly with appetizers, hearty foods or by itself as an aperitif. The lower alcohol level, as well as the "Frizzante" (slight sparkle), might even make you think that you were drinking pure grape juice and therein lies the secret to its refreshment. Here are the best spots to find the sweet white wine around New York City. By Jonathan Pogash, with special contributor Jeffrey Pogash.
At Lair Lounge and Restaurant you can order yourself a bottle of Martini Moscato d'Asti for your table, and add in oysters on the half shell with truffle essence. The attractive decor and seating will encourage you to stay a while and sip on your gently sparkling wine.
In Spanish Harlem, Ricardo Steakhouse stands out as one of the top food establishments above 110th St. You can enjoy a wide array of grilled meats, like skirt steak and pork chops, while savoring the fruit flavors and essences of your glass or bottle of Moscato d'Asti.
The city's first "eco-friendly green nightclub", Greenhouse is a great place to hang with friends and possibly meet some new ones while sipping the sophisticated drink.
Central Bar on E. 9th St. has a pub feel, which makes it stand out from the rest of this list. The venue reminds us of a joint you'd find in downtown London. The food menu is extensive and tasty, and aside from Moscato D'Asti, they also have a list of cocktails and other fine wines to choose from. Daily specials are on offer, and they serve lunch.
At French Kosher steakhouse Le Marais, you can enjoy a glass or bottle of Bartenura Moscato d'Asti. Order any steak or fish off of their terrific menu (along with fries, of course), and you can easily sip away a couple of glasses of this wine. To top it all off, it happens to go exceptionally well with their desserts, like Tarte aux Pommes and Fondant de Chocolat.
