NY Driver High On Drugs Gets 16 Years In Prison
MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -- A New York man is going to prison for 16 years after admitting he was high on cocaine when he killed another driver in a crash while being chased by police in a stolen car.
Robert Feder was sentenced Friday in Nassau County Court in Mineola. He pleaded guilty in October to aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges in the death of John Carney.
Prosecutors say when police tried to stop Feder last May, he accelerated through several stop signs and then ran through a red light, smashing into a car driven by Carney.
Carney, a deputy county attorney, was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the crash, Feder did not have a valid driver's license; his license had been suspended 19 times previously.
