NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Prosecutors say an East Orange man has died after he was shot on a Newark street.

But it's not yet clear what sparked the shooting, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on South Pine Lane in Newark's north ward.

Chief Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly says police officers responding to reports of shots fired found 37-year-old Leroy Rogers.

Rogers died a short time after being taken to the hospital.

Further details on the shooting, including how many assailants may have been involved and what type of weapon was used, were not disclosed.
