Charles Bunnell, the Mohegans chief of staff for external and governmental affairs, says online gambling is not a new venture in Connecticut.

"Online gaming is available today. It's just illegal and unregulated. Earlier this week, one of your own colleagues successfully logged on and demonstrated at a hearing just how easy it is to access online gaming," Bunnell told the General Assembly's Public Safety and Security Committee on Thursday.

"We are ready and available to share our expertise in this discussion and we strongly support the regulation of internet gaming in Connecticut and the United States," he added.

Senate Republican leader John McKinney, a strong opponent of online gambling, argues individual states must retain jurisdiction over their gambling activities.

Gov. Dan Malloy has said he believes online gambling is an inevitability.
