LISTEN: Francesa Discusses Mets' Offensive Struggles

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Mets' offense has been all or nothing -- and far too much of the nothing.

A day after the Mets were swept in a doubleheader by the Pittsburgh Pirates, WFAN's Mike Francesa opened his show talking about the team's struggles.

"If you look, the Mets' stats are almost the same as last year except two statistics: One, they've hit so many more homers than they hit last year. Two, they have struck out like 150 times more than they did last year," Francesa said.

"The Mets are at the top of the charts on the home runs, but they're in the bottom of the league in scoring, which tells you that they get absolutely nothing at any other point and they're not getting guys on base in front of the home runs," he added.

And that is leading to some wasted solid pitching performances, Francesa said.

"They're back to that spot again where if you don't throw just an absolute gem ... you're not winning the game," Francesa said. "If you don't basically shut them out, you're not winning the game right now."

After losing seven of their last 10 games, the Mets are 31-26 -- 3½ games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East.
