1 Man Stabbed To Death, Second Man With Knife Shot Dead By Police In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police shot and killed a man they found clutching a knife in Brooklyn Monday evening, after he allegedly stabbed a man who also died.

As CBS 2's Tracee Carrasco reported, the front entrance of the apartment building at 820 Ocean Pkwy. in the Kensington section of Brooklyn remained blocked off late Monday night, as the NYPD investigation of the incident continued.

Police told CBS 2 that officers were responding to a quarrel between two men. When they arrived and entered an apartment, they found one of those men had been stabbed and the other man was holding the knife.

A woman and two children were also inside.

Police shot and killed the man with the knife. The man that had been stabbed was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Late Monday night, police were talking to a woman who was also stabbed. Her injuries were not serious, and she was also taken to an area hospital.

The two children were taken out by police and were not injured.

While police were trying to figure out what happened between the two men and the woman, residents in Kensington are shocked by this violent crime.

"We've had little things with accidents with the cars, but never any domestic violence that ended up this way," said Arlene Valentin. "It's just scary."

"We don't know what people really have in their home. It's closed doors. But by us -- we know who he is -- but we've never had murders, stabbing or anything like that," said Helena Auslenderr.

Police told CBS 2 the man with the man with the knife and the woman were a couple. As for the man who was stabbed, it was unclear exactly what his relationship was.

Sources told CBS 2 he may have been rushing into the apartment to break up a fight between the couple.

No officers were injured.

The incident was one of at least two police-involved shootings Monday evening. Police also shot and wounded a 19-year-old man at 145th Street and College Avenue in the Bronx, after he allegedly pointed a gun at them.
