Peter Luger. There is no introduction necessary here. However, you may not be familiar with their lunch menu, which includes some of the dinnertime regulars, but also includes this thing of beauty: the Luger Burger. Weighing in at over half a pound of meat, this burger is the real deal. Ground from the dry aged steaks for which Peter Luger earns his fame, upon grilling, the burger achieves a crust unlike that which mere non-aged ground chuck could never hope to earn. Each bite almost impossibly juicier than the last, you will barely stop to breathe as you engage all of yours senses consuming the Luger Burger. Unfortunately, it's only available on the lunch menu... so go get yours. Now.

Another day of uncertain weather conditions, another day wondering if it is good soup weather. At Ajisen, the answer is: it's always soup weather, especially when that soup is ramen noodles in broth. A steaming bowl of ramen is placed in front of you soon after you order; the menu has a great variety of toppings for your ramen as well. Choose from tender rib, seafood, pork chop... mostly for under $10, though a few ramen dishes do crest that hill. There is also a reasonably priced lunch menu that boasts sashimi and the like, but at a place with the word 'ramen' in its name, you will do well to stick to the ramen. When it's all over, indulge a little and treat yourself to a fried ice cream dessert (pictured).
EJ's Luncheonette
1271 3rd Ave
New York, NY 10021
(212) 472-0600
The quintessential diner with countertops and barstools at which you can sit, EJ's has that old school charm; something that's hard to come by in NYC, a city that's ever changing to keep up with the newest trends. Instead, EJ's takes the things they know how to do well, and keeps doing them: take, for example, the waffles (pictured), with their logo branded into the front. Though prices can seem on the high side, remember where you are - the Upper East Side - and tough it out. Be warned, though; EJ's is cash only. Be sure to hit the ATM before visiting!
