Brooklyn Commune focuses on fostering community and helping people connect with the food they eat. Since opening, they've created relationships with many of the local organizations. The food here is distinctly seasonal, with a community-driven menu. There's even a section titled "Kidwiches" which caters to the younger members of the area. Fear not, adult members of the community: the rest of the menu contains plenty of delicious offerings for you as well, including a particularly delicious roasted pork sandwich - served on ciabatta with Monterey Jack, guacamole, smoked onions and pickled peppers but only priced at $9, you'll want to return again and again to eat your way through the entire menu before it changes for the next season.

Centrally located in Times Square, Carmine's is an icon of the area - though there is an Upper West Side location as well. Delicious savory Italian cuisine will convert you to a believer in hype, though the huge portions may send you to naptime after lunch if you try to clean your plate. Especially delicious is the linguine with white clam sauce (pictured) - plenty of clams for everyone to share happily, and just the right amount of sauce. Indulge in al dente pasta as desired, but save room for dessert: there's a wide selection, sized for sharing of course, that needs sampling.

Delta Grill does what very few other restaurants in NYC do: offers a bit of Louisiana South for your mouth. A good restaurant serving up New Orleans fare is pretty hard to find up north, and Delta Grill does its best to fit the bill. Some of the dishes will transport you right back to Mardi Gras, while others will leave you wanting, but the staff is always friendly, the drinks are always strong, which makes for an excellent combination. Try the crawfish etouffee (pictured) for a real treat; crawfish in a dark roux served over rice. Wash it all down with Abita Triple Haze on tap - a great Louisiana beer - that packs a punch at 8% ABV. Now that's an afternoon off to a great start!
Editors note: try the mac and cheese at Delta Grill, it's amazing.
