LI Accountant Gets Prison Time In Theft From Elderly, Disabled Clients

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island accountant was sentenced to time in prison Tuesday after stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from elderly and disabled clients.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Scott Meyer will spend 4 1/3 to 13 years behind bars.

The 48-year-old pleaded guilty in March to grand larceny, falsifying business records and other charges.

According to prosecutors, Meyer pilfered more than $150,000 from a man with Alzheimer's disease.

The victim's sister told a judge on Tuesday that Meyer took advantage when her brother was "most vulnerable.''

Meyer also stole from a nonprofit group and pocketed nearly $250,000 from a disabled man, according to authorities.

Spota said Meyer used the money for vacations to Aruba, Disney World and the Bahamas.
