Police: Man Tries To Rape 24-Year-Old Woman After Following Her Into Lower Manhattan Apartment Elevator

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- A man followed a young woman into an apartment elevator and attempted to rape her on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Officials said a 24-year-old woman entered her building elevator at around 3:20 p.m. near Stanton Street and Pitt Street in lower Manhattan when a man followed her inside.

When the elevator reached the victim's floor, the man tried to grope her and pushed her against the wall before fondling her, police said.

The suspect then followed the woman to her apartment, but fled the scene after a man came to the door from inside.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned Hispanic man between the ages of 16 and 20 years old, 5 foot 2 inches to 5 foot 4 inches tall, and weighing about 130 pounds.
