John Wayne Exhibit Comes To Upper East Side Friday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- John Wayne fans will be able to view the legendary film star's personal and professional items at an Upper East Side exhibit which opens Friday afternoon.

Heritage Auctions is hosting the exhibit as a preview before the items hit the auction block on Oct. 6.

President of Heritage Auctions, Greg Rohan, is calling the exhibit a "time capsule of classic Hollywood and U.S. history," and said he expects all different kinds of visitors to the auction - from serious collectors to loyal fans.

Rohan told CBSNewYork that the Wayne family has been fielding inquiries from fans looking to own a piece of John Wayne memorabilia consistently since the actor's death 32 years ago.

The public exhibition features more than 100 awards, scripts, costumes and personal documents which belonged to the actor, who appeared in over 170 films.

Among the goods are the eye-patch the actor wore in True Grit, an item which is expected to sell for over $50,000.

Also available are letters to John Wayne written by President Nixon, President Reagan and President Carter, along with the actor's American Express card.

Check out the exhibit at the address below. For more information and to register for the auction, visit JohnWayneAuction.com.
