Joe Girardi: Yankees' Russell Martin Aiming For Tuesday Return
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Yankees catcher Russell Martin just needed one more day.
The Bombers scratched their ailing catcher from the starting lineup on Monday because of a sore left big toe.
"He didn't look like he was walking great," Girardi said before the Yankees' 5-0 win. "We will shoot for (Tuesday)."
Martin also sat out Sunday's game after fouling a pitch off his toe against the Mariners on Saturday night.
The catcher was originally slated to bat sixth against the Athletics on Memorial Day. But the team announced about an hour before first pitch that he would be replaced by Francisco Cervelli.
Martin has started 44 of New York's first 51 games this season. He is hitting .253 with nine homers and 26 RBIs.
