NEW YORK - Closing arguments began Tuesday in the decades-old murder case of hip-hop star Jam Master Jay, whose real name is Jason Mizell.

The government called 35 witnesses and spent weeks laying out its case.

Mizell's godson Karl Jordan Jr. and his childhood friend Ronald Washington are accused of killing the Run-DMC DJ in 2002 at his Queens recording studio after he cut them out of a cocaine trafficking deal.

Prosecutors' closing arguments focused on eyewitness testimony and ballistic and forensic evidence.

The defense's closing arguments begin Wednesday.
