Investigation Of East Orange Mayor Stalls
EAST ORANGE, N.J. (CBS 2) -- There was frustration in East Orange as a sex harassment investigation against the city's mayor stalled.
Mayor Robert Bowser was accused of sexually harassing a city employee and misappropriating city funds. The city council drafted legislation authorizing an investigation into the claims, but it hasn't gotten off the ground yet.
The mayor must sign off on the funds for the investigation, and he's been out of town.
"If they're true, we don't want anybody who works for the City of East Orange to be harmed in any way. And if they're false, we certainly don't want someone to be falsely accused of something they didn't do," said Jamal Barnes of the Council.
According to city law, the mayor has ten business days to sign the legislation. Otherwise it will go into effect without his approval.
The deadline was set for Friday.
