Injury Report: Giants' Beason Likely To Make 2015 Debut Against Redskins

By Curt Macysyn

The New York Giants look to get out of the winless column with a key match-up with the Washington Redskins on Thursday Night Football. New York has sputtered out an 0-2 start after blowing consecutive 10- point fourth quarter leads in their first two games to start the season. For NFL aficionados, the Giants' level of ineptitude is actually historic, because their late game futility is one for the record books.

Unfortunately for New York, the team will be without star receiver Victor Cruz, who was again ruled out of the contest with a lingering calf injury. On the positive side, middle linebacker Jon Beason may see his first action of the season, as he is listed as probable. Beason missed the preseason and first two games of the regular season with a sprained knee.

Robert Ayers is listed as questionable with a hamstring pull, and if he cannot play, then New York will have an incredibly difficult time getting to Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins. Rookie pass rusher Owa Odighizuwa also remains out with a foot injury, so Cullen Jenkins may slide to the end position out of necessity, if he suits up. Jenkins is listed as probable with a hamstring injury.

The interior of the Giants defensive line has taken a hit with Markus Kuhn out with a knee injury, and Jay Bromley now listed on the injury report (knee). Kenrick Ellis was re-signed on Tuesday, when the Giants cut wide receiver Preston Parker. Louis Nix may also be in the mix at defensive tackle.

With Cruz out and Preston Parker out of town, the G-men will likely utilize rookie Geremy Davis more in the offense, as well as return specialist Dwayne Harris. It will be put up or shut up time for both players.

Rookie offensive tackle Ereck Flowers will probably not play because of an ankle injury, so Justin Pugh will have to man the left tackle spot, while John Jerry comes in at guard. With only eight offensive linemen at his disposal, head coach Tom Coughlin surely hopes that Geoff Schwartz is over whatever illness has plagued him this week.

The game of musical tight ends continues with Daniel Fells likely to suit up after missing last week with a foot injury, while Jerome Cunningham will not play because of a knee injury suffered against the Falcons.
