Gotham Gossipist: Faye Dunaway Heads To Court Over Upper East Side Apartment
By Kimberly Rae Miller
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Hard to come by and easy to lose, rent stabilized apartments are serious business. Just ask actress Faye Dunaway.
The Academy Award winner is headed to housing court over her $1,048 rent-stabilized apartment on East 78th Street.
According to The New York Times, Dunaway's landlord is suing to evict the Mommy Dearest actress because she primarily lives in California. According to New York rent stabilization rules, a tenant must live in the stabilized property as their primary place of residence.
For her part, Dunaway is saying that she is not being evicted, but rather leaving on her own accord because of the dilapidated conditions of the building, citing her landlord's refusal to paint and properly exterminate. In a voicemail to the NYT, Dunaway said of her landlord, "He is a slum landlord. He has no class."
Dunaway "inherited" the low-rent apartment from her mentor, playwright William Alfred, who died in 1999. Her camp claims there is no need for eviction proceedings because she offered to hand over the apartment keys on Wednesday.
I'm calling dibs on the one-bedroom - anyone know a good real-estate agent?
