NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- You likely wouldn't guess Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik to be a Taylor Swift fan - that is, unless you saw him join her onstage Monday night at the World's Most Famous Arena.

One night after claiming three trophies at the American Music Awards, Taylor Swift hit the stage at Madison Square Garden for the first of two sold-out shows at the arena, the final stop on her world tour.

As has become standard practice for the 21-year-old superstar, she surprised those in attendance Monday night by bringing an unannounced musical guest on stage with her before the show's finale. Past concert crashers on her tour have included Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and Usher.

Calling it "one of the best songs ever written," Swift joined Rzeznik for a rendition of his band's smash hit "Iris."

The performance was well received by the audience, which was mostly composed of teen fans, probably too young to even remember the song's 1998 release.
