11-year-old girl struck and killed by school bus in Brooklyn
An 11-year-old girl died after being struck by a school bus in Brooklyn Thursday.
It happened around 3 p.m. at 23rd Avenue and Bath Avenue in Bath Beach.
Surveillance footage obtained by CBS News New York shows the girl starting to cross Bath Avenue in the crosswalk, appearing to have the right of way. She continues to run across the street in the crosswalk as the school bus makes a right turn from 23rd Avenue onto Bath Avenue and strikes her.
The video shows that the bus driver did not stop, leaving the scene.
The girl was rushed to Maimonides Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released.
The driver was later pulled over by police and taken to the 62nd Precinct for questioning. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident left the community shaken.
"It's scary because that's a school bus. It's not even MTA or nothing. It's like, was kids on there? Was you dropping off kids?" neighbor Lateesha Robinson said. "My grandkids walk up and down here. I walk up and down here. So now it's like, pay attention."
