Former Secretary Of State Clinton To Be Honored By AIDS Foundation
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has earned a special honor from the New York-based Elton John AIDS Foundation, in honor of her work to support gay rights.
Clinton will receive the first Founder's Award from the foundation. In a statement Wednesday, the foundation cited a 2011 speech in which Clinton asserted that gay rights were human rights for helping envision a world without AIDS.
Others honorees include celebrity chef Sandra Lee, business mogul Ronald Perelman, and Howard Rose, a founding board member of the organization. They will be feted during the foundation's annual benefit on Oct. 15 at Cipriani Wall Street, 55 Wall St., hosted by Anderson Cooper.
Former President Bill Clinton was given an award in 2009.
