Former Mayor Ed Koch Hospitalized With Respiratory Infection
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch has been hospitalized with a respiratory infection, his spokesman announced Tuesday afternoon.
Koch, who turns 88 on Dec. 12, was "admitted this afternoon to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with a respiratory infection. The infection is being treated with antibiotics," spokesman George Arzt said in a brief release.
Arzt said he was having lunch with the mayor on Tuesday when Koch said he didn't feel well and planned to call a doctor.
This is the second hospitalization for the former mayor in three months. Koch was at New York-Presbyterian for a few days in September where he was treated for anemia. During his hospital stay, Koch received a blood transfusion.
The three-term mayor has had previous health issues, including a stroke, a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery.
Koch served as mayor from 1978 to 1989.
