Florida Woman Sentenced In Connection With Adoption Scam Of Long Island Couple

LONG ISLAND (WCBS 880) – A woman has pleaded guilty to grand larceny charges after police say she promised to give her baby to a Long Island couple when the girl was born.

Authorities say Jessica Dreves, a pregnant woman from Florida, answered an ad from Lisa and Joseph Weiner, a Long Island couple looking to adopt.

The Nassau County District Attorney's Office said Dreves promised that when she had her baby girl, she would give the baby to the couple. But in reality, the 33-year-old Dreves also promised the baby to another couple in Massachusetts.

The Weiners sent Dreves over $7,000 for clothing, food and rent. But Dreves, who never gave the baby up for adoption, disappeared.

Dreves was eventually located by police in Jacksonville, Florida and after pleading guilty to grand larceny, will spend six months behind bars.
