NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - Staten Island firefighters now have a new place to train, a first of its kind in New York. A mobile fire unit that travels from firehouse to firehouse.
WCBS 880 reporter Marla Diamond observed as conditions of an actual fire are being replicated as firefighters practice and train for the real thing.

"Well, first they'll force entry into this doorway," said FDNY Captain Craig Silvino.
After they break down the entry, firefighters get down on all fours in a tiny crawlspace.
"The lower compartment is actually 32 inches by 32 inches," said Silvino.
And firefighters have to do this with 130 lbs of gear strapped to their back.
These units cost $270,000 and they save the Staten Island firefighters the three hour trip to Randall's Island.
