"Which will give the birds a permanent space to rebuild their nests," she said.
She plans to put up more.
"85 percent of the nests in those trees have already been torn down and they're lying at the base of Route 5," she said.
The contractor was clearing the way to replace an old retaining wall.
In addition to her own platforms, Fragale is pushing for the State Senate to vote on a bill passed in the Assembly to protect monk parakeets.
"Then people won't be able to do things like this to those poor birds," she said.
She says right now they're on a list that basically defines them as pests.
"And they have to be taken off of that list," she said.
