David Wright Could Return To Mets' Red-Hot Lineup By Mid-July

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Like the Mets need more offense?

David Wright, on the mend from a stress fracture in his lower back, could be ready for a rehab assignment in "seven, eight days," Mets manager Terry Collins said on Wednesday.

"I talked to David this afternoon, after he was done with his rehab," the Collins said. "He said he feels absolutely great."

Collins said Wright took swings in a pool on Wednesday and plans to hit off a tee Thursday.

That puts Wright on pace to return shortly after the All-Star break.

Wright, batting .226 on the season, is missing one heck of a hot streak.

The Mets scored at least 14 runs for the third time in four games, including Tuesday night's 14-3 victory over Detroit. It was another football score Wednesday: 16-9.

The Tigers haven't been the only team struggling to stop the Mets. New York set a team record by scoring 52 runs in a four-game span. They have 69 hits during their spree.

Miguel Cabrera hit two of Detroit's five homers. The Mets romped despite not hitting any home runs.

The Mets scored 50 runs in four games from June 12-15, 1990, according to STATS, LLC. It was the first time since 2007 a team won despite being outhomered by at least five, according to STATS — Tampa Bay beat the Orioles 15-8 on Aug. 28 of that year, despite hitting only one home run to Baltimore's six.

"It's been unbelievable," outfielder Angel Pagan said. "Obviously, right now, this is the best baseball we've played."

Will the Mets continue to surge in Wright's absence? Sound off in the comments below...
