NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey man allegedly tried to beat the toll booths at the Holland Tunnel and lost.

A biker cruised through an E-Z Pass lane at the inbound Holland Tunnel with his license plates blacked out by electrical tape on Wednesday morning, according to Port Authority Police.

A tunnel manager noticed the taped plates and alerted authorities.

Michael Mongalier, 38, was charged with theft and tampering with a public record.
