Connecticut Tax-Free Shopping Week Begins Sunday
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Need to buy clothes? Next week is the time to hit the stores in Connecticut.
The state's tax-free week -- which eliminates Connecticut's 6.35 percent sales tax on clothes costing less than $300 -- runs from Sunday through Aug. 24. It will undoubtedly be a welcome relief to back-to-school shoppers.
Consider the savings: If buying a $299 item, shoppers can save about $19, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.

"We want to attract people to our stores, to our economy and turn around the state of Connecticut, and this kind of tax-free week works in that direction," said state Sen. Ed Meyer (D-Guilford).
Savvy shoppers can stretch their savings even further by looking for sales because some retailers will lower prices on items to get them below the tax-free threshold.
