Connecticut State Entomologist Sounds West Nile Warning
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - We hear the warnings every summer to protect ourselves against mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus.

But this summer, which has been filled with so much heat, humidity, and heavy, the warnings really have to be heeded.
"We're seeing a very rapid, unprecedented buildup of West Nile Virus activity in southeastern Connecticut," State Entomologist Dr. Theodore Andreadis told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau. "We're seeing increased levels at a faster pace that we have never encountered."
Andreadis said the virus has been detected in mosquitoes trapped in 13 towns in lower Fairfield County.
He said that by nomes has the activity peaked. That won't happen until late August.
Experts urge people to use mosquito repellant before venturing outside, and to discourage mosquito breeding by getting rid of standing water around your property.
