Christie Wants $271M Tunnel Tab Eliminated

TRENTON, N.J. (AP/WCBS 880) -- Gov. Chris Christie says he hopes New Jersey taxpayers won't have to repay any of the $271 million the federal government has demanded for a scrapped Trans-Hudson rail tunnel connecting the state and New York.

The governor also said Friday that there is no way New Jersey will share the cost of replacing the Tappan Zee Bridge with New York.

Christie says the lawyers will be aggressive in their attempt to lessen or eliminate the bill.

Christie canceled the tunnel in October saying New Jersey couldn't afford potential cost overruns.
