Brooklyn Jury Acquits Man Imprisoned For 24 Years
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Derrick Deacon served 24 years in prison after being convicted of murder. On Monday, a Brooklyn jury took just nine minutes before determining he never belonged there at all.
The jury acquitted Deacon, who had been found guilty in the 1989 shooting death of Anthony Wynn during a robbery in a Flatbush apartment complex.
The 58-year-old man was granted a new trial in 2012 after an FBI cooperator identified a different man as the shooter and the recantation of a separate witness.
Deacon's attorney said the Jamaican national is being held by immigration authorities, but is expected to be released on bail in about a week.
