Bratton: Scientific Survey Of Cops, New Yorkers To Measure 'How Are We Doing?'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD wants to hear from the public about how they're doing at keeping the city safe.
As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, Commissioner Bill Bratton announced efforts to scientifically measure what police officers and members of the community think of the police department.

"We are currently in our re-engineering process. We're going through in the department, we're just getting ready to send out a carefully crafted polling device to all 50,000 members of the department; a voluntary response that we will continue over time to see how we're doing," said Bratton.
Bratton's template is a Harvard-engineered study he conducted when he led the LAPD.
"We'll be going out in the next couple of weeks. We're designing the technology, if you will, and working with our unions, the fraternal groups, to basically conduct a survey: How are we doing? Trying to find common ground, what's working, what's not working from the cops and the civilian perspective," said Bratton.
The police commissioner said they're also designing a poll to be used in every precinct of the city on a quarterly basis.
Bratton said he wants a reliable way to measure whether damage has been repaired and improvements have been made.
