Kids Test Out 2015's Best Toys At The Good Housekeeping Institute

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Thanksgiving is next week and a lot of people are looking ahead to holiday shopping.

CBS2's Cindy Hsu got a sneak peek the winners and little testers of Good Housekeeping's "Best Toy" award winners.

The Toy Testing Lab at the Good Housekeeping Institute is a child's dream.

Experts screened more than 500 new toys for safety and skill building, then kid testers came up with the top 25.

Cole Berkman said he limes the Imaginext Ultra T-Rex, because it shoots out lots of stuff.

"It makes a lot of noise, and mostly it can move," he said.

Vivian Sanchez loves the Sick Science Experiments Kit.

"You have to try to blow it up with the hole and the corkscrew. It's really challenging," she said.

The toys are also tested for safety. Rachel Rothman of the Good Housekeeping Institute, performed the drop test.

"We want to make sure when it drops it makes a nice loud sound, that it's not going to drop into something that would fit inside of this," she explained.

Any pieces that break off could be a choking hazard. You can measure small pieces a home with a toilet paper roll, if they fit inside it's not a good toy for a child under 3-years-old.

As for the Toy of the Year, the Dash & Dot Robots do about everything you can imagine, and you can find all of the winners of the "Best Toy Awards" in the December issue of Good Housekeeping, which comes out on Tuesday.
