The 6 Best Restaurants On Long Island, 2011 Edition

Just east of Manhattan, Long Island is home to over seven million people. It is also home to many notable restaurants. In fact, several of their dining options give NYC dwellers the perfect excuse to leave the city for a day or night out on (another) town. Ranging from affluent to typical suburban spots, these are the six spots that made our cut.

Matsuya Japanese Restaurant

6 Great Neck Road
Great Neck, NY (516) 773-4411
Reviews & More Info

Don't be turned off by its strip mall locale, the freshness and quality of the sushi is what regularly draws people to Matsuya. Sushi aficionados will be impressed by the 30 types of sushi rolls. If sushi does not suit your tastes, the selection of Japanese/Asian inspired entrees will keep non-sushi lovers happy. The gorgeous tropical fish tank adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. It also captures the attention of little ones…eliminating some of the restlessness that occurs between the time that food is ordered and delivered, if you're dining with some youngsters.

Reviews & More Info

If you love the combination of beautiful, peaceful scenery coupled with amazing food, then the Lake House is the perfect place for you. Located on Lawrence Lake, the view sets a tranquil mood for this fine dining restaurant. Thankfully, the food is as exquisite as the visuals. We recommend seafood favorites (including Organic Irish Salmon and the Pan Seared Local Bass). The Crisp Long Island Duck is another dish that will not disappoint. Please note that reservations are a must at this popular location.

88 Mineola Ave.
Roslyn Heights, NY
(516) 484-0555
Reviews & More Info

Matteo's successfully brings a taste of Italy home to Long Island with their heaping, family-style portions. Matteo's now boasts several restaurants in New York—and some in Florida—but they are still serving the same recipe and the same Italian comfort food. Don't want such a loaded meal? They even offer a "light" menu, that's light on everything but the taste.

Besito Mexican Restaurant

402 New York Avenue
Huntington, NY
(631) 549-0100
Reviews & More Info

Considered one of the best on Long Island, Besito offers the finest in Mexican food. One must-have item on the menu is the Tableside Guacamole, which is made fresh right in front of you. Although Besito's menu can be a little pricy, they offer a lunch menu with smaller portions and lower prices.

SriPraPhai offers fresh and authentic Thai food, which is reasonably priced. The menu is large, which allows for customers to be adventurous in selecting. Additionally, the restaurant offers an entirely vegetarian menu for those who follow a vegetarian diet—or those who don't feel risky.
